Houston Radar Dual SS300 Discreet Radar Traffic Monitoring Station

Custom made Plug & Play discreet radar traffic monitoring station. Built with new parts and used to collect traffic data over the 11 months.
Mounted in a Hoffman outdoor industrial control enclosure with a metal bracket (and stainless u-bolt) for pole-mounting. This unit can measure incoming and outgoing traffic simultaneously. All the data is logged on the devices and transferred to a PC using the included USB to Serial adapter. The unit has a custom serial port cable and port with a switch that allows you to select the unit you are communicating with. There is also a backup battery in case of external power failure. All the backup battery does is keep the time and date until power is restored.
For power, I designed a box that can hold 2x 12v 8Ah sealed lead-acid batteries (batteries not included). With the batteries wired in parallel, I observed approximately 3 weeks of data collection on a single charge. I'm also including another plug end if you wish to make a power adapter for it. The battery box cable is approximately 4.5 feet. A larger, deep cycle battery could potentially collect a month or more of data on a single charge.
The Houston Radar SS300 units themselves are weatherproof, the enclosure stays nice and dry inside as well. They are K-Band radar and do more than just log data. They have RS232 out that will give you live speed data and has 2 trigger outputs (you can set the threshold in the software).
This was built out of new components last year and has performed exceptionally well throughout the winter here in the Northeast. I powered the unit with a 12v power supply for the winter.

You could easily make your money back renting this out doing traffic surveys. The software is excellent and has many different types of reports. You can even export the raw data and analyze it in a spreadsheet application. The software also allows you to view the live data so you can make sure the unit is aimed correctly.
