    . Succeeding the
    1995 SVT Cobra R
    , this latest iteration of the SVT Cobra R is powered by a 5.4L V8 engine that produces 385hp, sending drive to the rear wheels via a 6 speed manual transmission. The Cobra R is created to be a race-focused street car, and as such, it lacks many comforts and options available on other Mustang variants. As well its powerful engine, a range of improvements to the suspension and drivetrain were made. The Cobra R was only available in Performance Red, and featured a distinctive front and rear spoiler. Production of the 2000 SVT Cobra R ended once a total of 300 examples were built.
