Wow... Wow... Wow... !! Love it or hate it, this 1971 Ford Mustang "Resto-Mod" Coupe is definitely an eye catcher !! The current owner is selling because he just does not have time to enjoy it. After looking for a few years, he looked high and low for something different. He stumbled upon this Mustang through a friend. After doing a close inspection and admiring how that owner restored the car to what you see here, what really sold the current owner was how clean, rust free and nice the entire undercarriage is !!
Paint and body are a very high driver quality, if not show quality !! Body panels, fit and finish are very nice, except drivers door, it's not sagging, it just needs a little re-alignment. Doors, trunk and hood open / close very nice. Trim, brightwork, bumpers are very nice. Super solid floors, subframe, rockers, trunk pan and firewall. Vinyl top in great shape, although it does show a little bubbling on driver's side rear panel. Glass is nice, although driver's window and passenger widow do show some scratches.
Interior is just as impressive !! Very nice door panels and headliner. Ver nice dash pad with no cracks. Seats look to be new seat covers and are very nice, driver's seat bolster does show a little wear. Seatbacks look to be original and do show some age. Console also appears to be original and also shows some age. Working gauges, signals, lights, horn, wipers, radio and climate controls ( no ac ).
Marti Report shows that the car originally is yellow and was born with a 351ci / C6 automatic. At some point during restoration, it now has a stock 429ci / 4-Speed manual transmission. Stock rear with believed to stock gearing ( do not know gearing ? ).
Car starts right up and settles to a smooth idle, after the throttle is "kicked down" , I forgot to "kickdown in the youtube video above. 4-Speed manual trans shifts very nice and with excellent clutch take up.
While driving the car, the transmission easily engages each gear, the 429ci had great power as it should. No smoking or strange noises from the motor. Drive belt squeaks a little. Effortless power steering and great pedal feel with the power disc brakes. The car is tight as drum - no body squeaks or rattles. The car tracks straight, even while braking.
